

Branka Rešetar, Ph.D., is a Full Professor with Tenure at the Chair of Civil and Family Law at the Faculty of Law in Osijek. She is a member of several international associations in the field of family law, including Family Law in Europe: Academic Network, serves as the Croatian expert for the Commission on European Family Law, and is a member of the International Society of Family Law. On several occasions, she has been a member of working groups responsible for drafting legislation in the field of family law and children’s rights, and she served as the head of the working group for the drafting of the new Family Act (Official Gazette Nos. 75/2014 and 103/2015), which has been in force since 1 November 2015. She has edited seven scientific and professional conferences in the field of family law, is the editor-in-chief of the interdisciplinary scientific journal Child and Family in Contemporary Society and has been a member of the editorial board of the journal Pravni vjesnik for ten years. She is the author and co-author of three study programmes: the undergraduate and graduate university programme Social Work, and the lifelong learning programme Interdisciplinary Professional Training Programme in the Protection of Children’s Procedural Rights and Communication with the Child. She has participated in approximately ten scientific and professional projects, presented papers at more than forty scientific and professional conferences, and is the author, co-author, and editor of seven scientific books, as well as the author and co-author of more than sixty scientific and professional papers.

Miro Gardaš, Ph.D., Full Professor with Tenure at the Faculty of Law Osijek, was born on 11 December 1965 in Velimirovac, near Našice. He completed both his primary and secondary education in Osijek. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Osijek in 1990, specializing in Roman Law, with a graduation thesis entitled “Marriage in Roman Law, with Special Reference to the Forms of Marriage.” In 1993, he was appointed as a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Law Osijek in the field of Administrative Law. He obtained his Master’s degree in 1997, defending his Master’s thesis entitled “Disaggregation of Shareholdings in Osijek after the Second World War, with Special Reference to Re-establishment: Public Law Aspects.” Since 1998, he has been employed as an Assistant Professor in the field of General History of Law and the State. He received his doctoral degree in 2001, having defended his doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Law Osijek entitled “The Organization of Courts in the Austrian Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, with Special Reference to the Territory of Medieval Slavonia.” In 2021, he was elected to the academic title of Full Professor with Tenure in the field of History of Law and the State. In 2006, he was elected Head of the Department of Legal and Historical Sciences at the Faculty of Law in Osijek, a position he subsequently held on several occasions. He is a member of the Croatian Society for History and the Croatian Institute for Local Self-Government. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Pravni vjesnik and previously served as a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Glasnik arhiva Slavonije i Baranje. He has reviewed numerous articles for leading scholarly journals in Croatia and abroad. In his academic research to date, he has focused particularly on the study of legal history and judicial systems in Osijek and Slavonia, which has resulted in the publication of numerous scholarly articles in reputable journals in Croatia and internationally.

Josip Berdica, Ph.D., was born on 17 February 1979 in Osijek, Croatia. After completing primary education, he enrolled in 1993 at the Archbishop’s Classical Gymnasium with Public Rights in Zagreb. In 1997, he began studies at the Catholic Faculty of Theology, University of Zagreb – Theology in Đakovo, graduating in 2002. During his studies, he received two distinguished awards: the Rector’s Award (2000) and the Lions Organization Award for Best Student of the Generation (2001). In 2002, he enrolled in postgraduate studies in philosophy at the Croatian Studies – Faculty of Philosophy, Society of Jesus, University of Zagreb, and successfully defended his Master’s thesis in 2007. In the same year, he began his doctoral studies in philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb, focusing on social philosophy, and defended his doctoral dissertation in 2010. Since 1 November 2003, he has been continuously employed at the Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, initially as a Research Assistant and Senior Research Assistant. In 2010, he was appointed Senior Lecturer in Social Sciences (Sociology), and in 2012 he was promoted to Assistant Professor in the Humanities (Philosophy). From 2018 to 2023, he held the position of Associate Professor, and since 2023 he has been a Full Professor. He has also taught at the Department of Cultural Studies in Osijek and at the “Lavoslav Ružička” Polytechnic in Vukovar. Currently, he lectures as a visiting faculty member at the Faculty of Philosophy in Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and at the Evangelical Theological College Osijek. He is a member of Matica hrvatska and the Croatian Philosophical Society, where he serves as Chair of the Board for Philosophy, Theology, and Religious Studies. He is proficient in English and has working knowledge of German, Italian, and French.

Dubravka Klasiček, Ph.D., is a Full Professor at the Department of Civil and Civil Procedure Law at the Faculty of Law of the J.J. Strossmayer University in Osijek. She graduated from the Faculty of Law in Osijek in 2001, and defended her doctoral dissertation titled “Forced share as a limitation of freedom of testation” at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb in 2011. She has been employed at the Faculty of Law in Osijek since 2001, and in 2024 she was awarded the title of Full Professor. She has published a number of scientific and professional papers in Croatian and English, either independently or as a co-author, and has participated in a number of domestic and international scientific conferences in the Republic of Croatia and abroad, some of which she has organized. Main areas of interest: inheritance law and law of obligation (with a special emphasis on the changes that have occurred in these parts of civil law due to advances in digital technologies) and animal law. At the Faculty of Law, Professor Klasiček teaches several courses (Civil Law 1, Civil Law and Technology, Basics of Civil Law). She also teaches at the doctoral study program at the Faculty of Law in Osijek and at the Doctoral School of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek.

Nikol Žiha, Ph.D., is a Full Professor at the Department of Legal History and Roman Law, Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. She obtained her law degree in Osijek and continued her academic and professional development at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, where she earned her Master’s and Doctoral degrees. She was awarded a fellowship by the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research and pursued advanced studies at the Institute for Roman Law and Ancient Legal History, Faculty of Law, University of Vienna, and at the Institute for Medical Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Cologne. With over twenty years of experience in academia, she has held several leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Legal History and Roman Law (2014-2018) and Vice-Dean for Projects and International Cooperation (2014-2016). She actively participates in numerous research projects and scientific conferences both in Croatia and abroad. Her research interests include Roman private law, European legal history, and legal education methodology, with a particular focus on the development of modern legal education through the integration of legal tradition and contemporary social challenges. Alongside completing the “Pedagogical, psychological, didactic, and methodological training” at the Faculty of Education, she continues to advance her expertise in teaching methodology. Notably, she has completed the professional training program “Active Learning and Critical Thinking in Higher Education.” As the initiator and head of the Clinic for Inclusive Education, she is committed to strengthening the social dimension of higher education.

Zvonimir Jelinić, Ph.D., an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law Osijek, was born in 1979 in Osijek. At the Faculty of Law Osijek he teaches the law of Civil Procedure Law and related courses. His academic career has been marked by extensive international professional cooperation and research stays; he was a fellow of the U.S. Government (University of Iowa College of Law), the Kingdom of Sweden (Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), etc. He has made a significant contribution to the Croatian legal aid system and legal education as the founder and head of the general live client law clinic „OSIJEK PRO BONO“. Under his leadership, the clinic has successfully implemented eight clinical projects in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, following initial support from the U.S. Government. He is an active member of prominent international organizations, including the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE), the European Network for Clinical Legal Education (ENCLE), and the European Law Institute (ELI). In his scholarly work, he is primarily dedicated to researching enduring judicial reform, various issues concerning civil litigation, the development of legal aid systems, and clinical legal education.

Katarina Knol Radoja, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the Chair of Civil Law and Civil Procedure Law at the Faculty of Law Osijek. She graduated in law from the Faculty of Law, Osijek in 2006, thereby obtaining the academic degree of Bachelor of Laws, after which she completed a period of voluntary professional training at the Municipal Court in Osijek, where she acquired practical experience in the work of judicial authorities. Since 2008, she has been employed at the Faculty of Law Osijek, Chair of Civil Procedure Law, initially as a Research and Teaching Assistant. She passed the Bar Exam in 2009. In 2013, she completed a programme of general pedagogical, psychological and didactic-methodological education at the Faculty of Education, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. In 2015, she defended her doctoral dissertation entitled „Prerequisites for the Admissibility of Filing a Lawsuit in Relation to Certain Legal Entities“ and was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Science in Law (Ph.D.). In the same year, she was appointed Senior Assistant, and in 2016 she was elected to the academic position of Assistant Professor. In 2021, she was elected to the academic position of Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law Osijek. She has participated in numerous national and international scientific conferences and has published a number of scientific and professional papers. Her main research interests focus on access to justice, the right to a fair trial and procedural guarantees of party participation in proceedings. Particular attention is given to the right to be heard, transparency of civil proceedings in the digital environment, protection of the right to privacy, and the promotion of peaceful dispute resolution.

Višnja Lachner, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the Chair of Legal History and Roman Law at the Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. She completed her primary and secondary education in Našice and enrolled in the Faculty of Law in Osijek in the academic year 2004/2005. She graduated in 2008 with honors (cum laude). She completed her doctoral studies in Public Law and Public Administration at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, where she defended her PhD dissertation in 2015 entitled “The Legal Status and Organization of the Free and Royal City of Osijek (1881–1934).” She has been employed at the Faculty of Law in Osijek since 2008, initially as a Research Assistant and Senior Assistant, and since 2016 as an Assistant Professor. She completed pedagogical, psychological, didactic, and methodological training at the Faculty of Education, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. Her research interests include Croatian and European legal history, the history of local self-government, and the legal status of women throughout history. She has participated as a researcher in several scientific projects, presented papers at numerous international and domestic conferences, and published a number of scholarly articles. She actively collaborates with national and international scholars, serves as a reviewer for several academic journals, and is a member of the Organizing Committee of the international conference “ECLIC – EU and Comparative Law Issues and Challenges.”

Nataša Lucić, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the Chair of Family Law, Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, where she also serves as Head of the Chair. She graduated at the Faculty of Law Osijek, and passed both the state professional and judicial (bar) examinations. She earned her PhD at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, specializing in civil and family law. In her academic and teaching work, she focuses on substantive and procedural family law, with her primary research interests directed toward the legal protection of de facto family relations and the protection of children’s procedural rights. She is the author of two scholarly books, numerous academic articles, and national reports in the field of family law, including a report prepared for the Commission on European Family Law. She actively participates in national and international academic conferences and international research projects, and she has served as a member of the working group responsible for drafting amendments to the Family Act. Her academic and teaching mobility has been oriented toward teaching and participating in academic programs at foreign universities, thereby contributing to the international exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of family law. She has also been involved in the creation and implementation of professional training programs for judicial officials working with children, within the framework of the Judicial Academy, as well as other relevant institutions, organizations, and professional bodies. She is a recipient of an award for excellence in teaching and student relations. She is the head of the Interdisciplinary lifelong learning program “Child in Justice System”, Vice President of the Croatian Association for the Legal Protection of the Family, and a member of the International Society of Family Law.

Davorin Pichler, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law Osijek. He was born on 26 August 1974 in Osijek. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Osijek. During his studies, he received a scholarship from the Ministry of Science and Education and was awarded the Rector’s Award. He began his career as a trainee at the Municipal Court in Beli Manastir. In 2004, he passed the bar exam. Since 2006, he has been employed at the Faculty of Law in Osijek as a Teaching Assistant. He is enrolled in the Postgraduate Doctoral Studies in Civil and Family Law at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, where he defended his Doctoral Dissertation entitled “Private Health Insurance in the Health Insurance System” in 2013. He speaks English actively and German passively. He is a co-taught lecturer for the subjects Civil Law I and Civil Law II, Medical Law and Fundamentals of Civil Law. He is a lecturer for the subjects Copyright Law and Land Registry Law. He is a co-lecturer for the subject New Compulsory Law and a lecturer for the subject Real Law at the Postgraduate University Doctoral Study in Law at the Faculty of Law in Osijek. In his previous scientific work, he has published a university textbook, two scientific monographs, and multidisciplinary papers in domestic and international scientific journals and publications in the field of civil law, and has presented at scientific conferences in the country and abroad. In 2021, he was appointed Associate Professor.

Tomislav Nedić, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law Osijek, where he teaches civil law, as well as courses in copyright law and medical law. He earned his PhD in Law in 2022 at the Faculty of Law in Osijek, with a specialization in legal theory, and is currently a PhD candidate in Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. Prior to his appointment at the Faculty of Law in Osijek, he was employed as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek, where he taught private law courses in the field of intellectual property. His international experience includes research stays at private law departments at King’s College London, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and the University of Antwerp. He has participated in and presented papers at numerous international conferences in Croatia and abroad, including those held at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, the University of Antwerp, Soongsil University in Seoul, the University of Helsinki, and the University of Padua. He was one of the coaches of the PRAVOS team at the finals of the World Moot on International Law and Animal Rights (WMILAR), held at the University of Oxford in 2025. He is the author of two scholarly monographs and more than forty scientific publications in the fields of civil law, private law theory, philosophy of law, medical law, bioethics and animal law. His research focuses on private law theory and the philosophical and ethical foundations of civil law, particularly on personality, subjective rights and property, as well as on borderline normative issues involving the human body, death and animals. He serves as President of the Supervisory Board of the Croatian Philosophical Society, is a member of the Supervisory Board of the Croatian Bioethics Society, and is Head of the Section for Philosophy of Law within the Croatian Philosophical Society. He is the recipient of several awards, including the Rector’s Award and the Dean’s Awards, as well as various scholarships.

Marko Sukačić, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the Chair of Legal History and Roman Law at the Faculty of Law in Osijek, Croatia, where he teaches Roman private law. He completed his undergraduate and graduate law studies cum laude at the Faculty of Law Osijek in 2012. In February 2019, he defended his doctoral dissertation, ‘Pactum displicentiae in the Roman Legal Tradition’, as authored under the mentorship of Associate Professor Tomislav Karlović, PhD, at the Faculty of Law Zagreb. He speaks English and German. As a recipient of the SEE | EU Cluster of Excellence scholarship, he spent a month at the Europa-Institut in Saarbrücken. His Erasmus+ Mobility grant allowed him to visit the Institute for History of Law and Comparative Legal History at Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg in 2017, and, in 2018, the Chair of Civil law, Roman law and Civil Procedure Law at the Faculty of Law at the Ruhr University of Bochum. In June 2023, he was awarded a scholarship for the scientific research at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory, Frankfurt. He has actively participated at several international scientific conferences and has published several scientific articles in Croatian and English.

Toni Pranić is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law Osijek. Born in Zagreb in 1986, he graduated in sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb. Since 2014, he has been working at the Faculty of Law Osijek where he holds classes in legal studies, social work and administrative studies. He is a doctoral candidate at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, with a topic on microsociological approach to justice, under the mentorship of professor Péter Bodor. He was a junior editor in Pravni vjesnik in period from 2018 to 2024. His research interests are questions of justice and legal culture, sociological theories, digitalization and qualitative research methods.

Marija Pavošević, Master of Laws, has been employed as a Teaching Assistant at the Chair of Civil Law and Civil Procedure Law of the Faculty of Law, University of Osijek, since the academic year 2024/2025. Prior to her appointment at the Faculty, she gained practical experience in a law firm and a notary public’s office, primarily working in the fields of civil law and civil procedure law (contracts, tort law, enforcement proceedings, land registry proceedings), and has passed the bar exam. Her research interests are focused on law of obligations and property law, with a particular emphasis on liability for damages, personal data protection and privacy, as well as property-law relations. She participated in the Erasmus+ BIP programme (Hungary) and the CEEPUS programme (Czech Republic). To date, she has published two co-authored papers with Associate Professor Davorin Pichler, PhD. Within the Unversity Integrated Undergraduate and Graduate Study Programme in Law, she teaches seminar classes in Civil Law I and Civil Law II.

Matko Guštin, Master of Laws, is a Teaching and Research Assistant at the Chair of Family Law at the Faculty of Law Osijek, and a doctoral candidate enrolled in the Doctoral Study Programme in Law at the same Faculty. His broader research interests are in the field of family law, while his specific research focuses on children’s rights, adoption, and family procedural law. The subject of his doctoral research addresses the analysis of adoption proceedings from the perspective of the protection of human rights and children’s rights. He is the author of several scholarly publications and has participated in numerous international scientific conferences in Belgium, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia. He has carried out scientific-research stays at Durham Law School (United Kingdom), the Institute for Family Law, Faculty of Law, Philipps University of Marburg (Germany), the Faculty of Law, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany), the Faculty of Law, University of Maribor (Slovenia), and the Faculty of Social Work, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). He is the Executive Editor of the interdisciplinary scholarly journal Child and Family in Contemporary Society and the Secretary of the interdisciplinary lifelong learning programme „Child in the Justice System“. He currently hold seminar classes in the courses Family Law (University Integrated Undergraduate and Graduate Study Programme in Law), Family Law and Family Procedural Law, Children’s Rights, and Rights of Persons with Disabilities (University Undergraduate Study Programme in Social Work), as well as Status Law of Citizens (Professional Undergraduate Study Programme in Public Administration), and practical classes in Family Law and Family Procedural Law within the University Undergraduate Study Programme in Social Work. He is a member of the International Society of Family Law and the Croatian Association for the Legal Protection of the Family.
